THE UPPER SAXON CIRCLE FORCES OF THE WAR OF THE SPANISH SUCCESSION

Robert Sulentic

GENERAL

HOLSTIEN GOTTROP INFANTRY
One battalion formations of around 600 men.

HOLSTIEN GOTTROP CAVALRY
300 man regiments (probably two squadrons). Equipment was natural leather.

UPPER SAXON CIRCLE INFANTRY
Very confusing. Some of these forces may have also been with either the Netherlands or Prussia, in which case the uniforms shown may not be correct. Rumrod is listed with 500 men in 1702 (it was in Italy in 1703) Foot guards are listed in 1714 as having 2 companies totalling 238 men. A milita existed consisting of 900 men in 1702. Saxe-Eisenach was raised in 1700 with the strength of 1000 men. (actually two were supposed to have been raised) for Imperial service. A Saxe-Gotha regiment is listed in Netherlands pay in 1704. It may have had 850 men. The Anhalt-Zerbst is conjectural and may be the Anhalt-Zerbst regiment in Prussian service (with a different uniform).

SAXE-WEIMAR CAVALRY
troop strength of 60 men each. Equipment was natural leather.
