UNIFORM GUIDES FOR NAPOLEONIC WARS

The uniforms of the armies of the Napoleonic Wars is a VAST subject. The wars lasted for over two decades involving all the nations of Europe. During these years, all of the nations involved changed the uniforms and equipment of their armed forces. In many cases unofficial alterations and difficulties in supply resulted in some formations adopting uniforms that were different to those described in the official regulations.

As a result, this section is aimed directly at enabling someone to paint their 6mm army and get it on the table. It does not go into the minutiae of the subject, as this would be a huge work in itself, rather than a quick and handy reference. There are books and references available for purchase or loan through libraries for those who wish to pursue such research.

As we are also primarily concerned with painting small scale armies it does not consider those details that cannot easily be depicted on 6mm wargaming figures. The exact spacing of buttons, patterns woven into lacing and variations on official practice are not considered.

In terms of depictions of colour, the plates are not designed to be an exact colour match. The effects of the elements on poor quality dyed cloth meant that official reds, blues and greens did not last very long when troops were on campaign.

These sections are primarily the work of volunteers who wish to share their knowledge and are prepared to put it on display for others to benefit. If you feel that you would like to cover and army or a period that does not appear in this section please >>>contact us>>>. We'll provide basic uniform templates and advice.
