Both of the people who actually read our last end of year missive and predictions may recall a gnomic reference to ‘Project X’.   Unlike most of our annual make-believe, Project X has come to completion, and it may come as a surprise to most of you.

The Magister Militum10mm historical figures range has been acquired by Baccus 6mm.  Yes, you read that correctly, we are now manufacturers of something other than glorious 6mm miniatures.

The hows and whys as to how this has come to pass are quite simple.  We are friends of Richard and Zoe Clewer, (the founders and owners of Magister Militum), and as they are shutting up shop, they wanted to see one of their most treasured ranges given a good home, and we were obvious candidates.  From our point of view, the MM 10mm ranges contain some absolutely stunning models, most of them done by the same sculptor who has designed some of Baccus’s most popular ranges.  On a purely personal point, it will also enable Peter to build yet more ECW, WSS and GNW ranges…

How will all this affect Baccus?  If all goes to plan, there should be no real impact.   The 10mm ranges will by marketed under the banner of, ‘Tenth Legion’, and will have their own website and ordering system.  They will have their own production caster although we will be sharing admin staff.  Before anyone asks, the Joy of Six will remain purely for 6mm games.  Release of new 10mm figures will run side by side with the release of 6mm models, and again, you should notice no difference.   The Baccus trade stand will remain purely for Baccus ranges.

We know that many of our customers do use 10mm figures and we hope that the continued existence of what is a very extensive range of castings will be welcomed.   If you are interested in seeing how all of this is taking shape, check out www.tenthlegion.uk .   We will warn you, regular users of the Baccus site will find it somewhat familiar…

We did an interview for a podcast with Tom Mallander of the Hobby Support Group, where we cover all of the above plus quite a bit more in some detail.   It’s well worth having a listen.   You will find the HSG episode listings here https://creators.spotify.com/pod/show/hobby-support-group

We are sure that you will have lots of questions about this, so please feel free to ask away.  We will do our best to answer all of them.

A rebound upwards... probably cute for Ancients fans... quite an staccato post today... too busy to elaborate but not being an Ancients fan I understand the classical approach enough... 10mm would be ok because not that much numbers involved (The idea of fighting in close combat with "cutting" weapons terrifies me... give me a good old rifle -bayonet useful for opening tin cans- and I feel happy to shot away... you need all sorts you know!) and you can almost get twice the detail... A sound commercial move probably (instead of releasing Omdurman Egyptian Cavalry and Camelry... lol).

I seem to recall that Magister did some 10mm scenic items that could (well I have) be used for 6mm purposes. Are these coming to the Tenth as well?

This is a fantastic new....Last year I also started a 10mm. project to give this scale too a try and ordered MM miniatures just before they closed casting laboratory. They're range is really nice and I'm really happy Baccus decided to save it.

The 10mm scenics were a completely different range to the figures and we are not taking them on.   Just bringing the miniatures in-house is a big enough task!

My doomed Crimean project has ended up supplementing my 10mm FPW and First Schleswig War projects.
