Hello,

Battalion guns, as I understand them, are small artillery pieces (3lb, 6lb guns) that are attached to an infantry battalion. They very light so that they don't slow a battalion down.

So, my question is regarding their uniforms. I'll be using these with British, Dutch, French, and Bavarian armies. Are their uniforms those of regular artillery soldiers in the artillery batteries or are would they have infantry uniforms as in the battalions they are attached to? Please advise.

It varied from nation to nation, and over time, but whilst the trained gunners firing the weapon might be from the artillery branch, most of the crew would tend to be infantrymen doing the less technical stuff like manhandling the weapon and passing ammunition.

gsayhi:

From around 1730 they are as DBS says and you think - are light guns attached to infantry battalions and manned by a mixture artillery and infantry uniforms.

Before 1730 they are more accurately called Regimental Guns and are they are just standard light field guns manned by artillerymen.

I attach battalion guns to the last stand of my SYW units. Two line infantry continue the ranks with a small gun manned by two gunners in artillery uniform.

A little goes a long way
