TOPIC: WWI Spearhead bases |
Standard User Posts: 66 frederick_the_green 8th Feb 2018 03:11:25 I am planning on dabbling with some WWI stuff, can anyone tell me the base sizes used? I suspect 20mm * 20mm based on baccus pictures, can anyone confirm or correct this? They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance |
Standard User Posts: 5 ROUGUE 8th Feb 2018 03:25:16 Frederick: I believe Spearhead recommends 30mm base's for 15mm and below. But Shawn also state's if all base's are the same you don't need to re-base. Hope this help's! Rougue (Mike) |
I initially looked at 30mm, but instead have gone for 25mm. A little goes a long way |
Standard User Posts: 207 monk2002uk 9th Feb 2018 06:55:17 Spearhead bases are 1.25" x 1.25" or 30mm x 30mm in metric. I use the same base size for 6 through 15mm. Robin uses the same for 20mm as well. You can use smaller but the concern is that it will enable more infantry companies occupy the same frontage, so make sure that you consider keeping smaller bases more widely spaced. Larger scales can require a longer base length to acommodate the likes of tanks and artillery pieces. Robert |
Standard User Posts: 66 frederick_the_green 9th Feb 2018 02:01:15 Thanks all, I'll try both 20's and 30's then, but I suspect if the standard is 30's, I'll end up using that.
Cheers again! They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance |
My problem is I am less keen on those rules than others, so am unlikely to play them a great deal. 25mm is more flexible for my tastes, and with about as much sense of Maths as I have with Mandarin ground scale has never been much of an issue for me. My poor mathematical pattern recognition means I only win about one game in 50, but I do enjoy the painting and modelling side of the hobby, plus the historical research (but not bolt counting).
