Looking at the uniforms/equipment, I thought ACW infantry in tunics (or sack coat), kepi, and blanket rolls would be nearly ideal. When looking at the Baccus catalog, I was quite surprised that no such figure is available. Quite odd considering the blanket rolls were more common than packs during the war and the ACW is a popular range. Or is it that my eyes are so bad I can’t see the blanket rolls? I will dream about the day when Baccus offers a generic figure in kepi, coat, pack, and front ammo pouches and now the same with a blanket roll. So many uses such figures would have. ;-) |
Suggesting things is OK... but they won't happen a lot... I absolutey agree with you... and that is not the sole example... all purpose figures would have been a must buy (example pickelhaube helmet with greatcoat would have been fantastic for Russian in the Crimea ... but also useful for the Franco-Prussian War 1870-71)... headgear been the most important thing in a mini IMHO. |

However feedback is always good for a business as it provides data. I was genuinely surprised that blanket roll figures weren't already available for the ACW line. It is likely the iconic look for a ACW soldier. What I am hoping is that Peter will see that such a figure would be a plus for the ACW line and that it can open the door for gamers to build other armies as a proxy. Two or three such figures combined with figures already available would greatly expand the periods/wars that Baccus can support. |
Such a figure could be used in the Garibaldi armies and as Francs Tireurs in the FPW. A little goes a long way |

Quite a lot have blanket rolls, but others do not. Contemporary photographs show a huge range of variation on both sides and the Baccus ranges are designed to match that appearance. As for universal proxy figures? I have no idea how popular they would be. Our current later 19thC ranges aren't star sellers when compared to other periods, and I don't know how popular such codes would be. I know a couple, maybe even a few of you think that I am mad to be ignoring such an obvious best-seller, but I have to weigh the costs up of doing something like these against the same resources being used for, say, Italian Wars Swiss. At the moment, Swiss will win hands down. Perhaps you can convince we with a Baccstarter? I have plans. I am dangerous when I have plans... |
![]() Standard User Posts: 44 1860-70 Russiansjwsleser 4th Sep 2025 04:01:09 That you for your comments Peter. As previously stated, I do understand that Baccus is business and I have no insight into your everyday issues/decisons. It is feedback from one customer, nothing more. RE: ACW figures. I would never have guessed that there is a the mix of figures based on the photos. Again we have previous discussed the challenges of detailed photos of 6mm figures. For my projects, a mix simply doesn't work. RE: Baccusstarter. Could you email me with what such an effort must look like/achieve to have figures produced. I can't promise any action, but I would need to know what would be required to 'make it happen' to assess whether such an effort is 'doable'. v/r Jeff |
To reiterate a bit: First: BACCUS has been a light in the darkness in my late (meaning my age) years of wargaming. It was fantastic (for my pet periods) to have a range like the American Civil War (absolutely complete "et sans reproche")... even if like jwsleser I would have liked packs with all the minis with blanket rol (because my units organization mind!)... but this is such a minor issue it really does not present a "problem" at all. I wish all ranges of BACCUS were as complete as the ACW. Second: As I have said, I am old enough to understand the business side of BACCUS, mind, I do not want at all to BACCUS to cease production or tire from it all and retire on us! Actually I want them to be there and prosper and hopefully stay in the business as long as Britains in the XXth Century (talking about Britains in the XIXth is just snobbish I fear). So please CARRY ON! Third: Any comment about the minis and packs in the ranges from us the buyers must be considered with respect as thoughts to IMPROVE the ditto business... not gratuitous sadic criticism at all. IF swiss minis for the Italian Wars is what sells nowadays GO ON!... do what people really really want! (it really does not matter what are some fans periods or not as in my case or jwsleser for instance!)... as a business first and foremost BACCUS must produce the packs that SELL!... Guess this clarifies a bit what I have always thought. Wish all manufacturers in any scale had a free speech Forum like BACCUS has. Really a PLUS IMHO. Wish you real luck with your business (even if it is our hobby... LOL) |
