Fascinating subject hardly touched upon in English schools. John Julius Norwich published an abridged, single volume version of his history, whilst a lady called Judith Herrin wrote a social history which has lots of little gems (eat your dinner with a fork, anyone?). From a wargaming perspective, there are soooo many periods and variations. Peter's right (unfortunately), even with his new set-up, where would he keep all those new moulds? The 'Nikeaphorian' Byzantine army always looks the most interesting to me and could be used to match up against other Baccus ranges, Mixed bow and spear elements mixed up with mixed wedges of cataphracts and armoured horse archers (and you can legtimately field vikings as Vangarians).
Its a very attractive army.
