I am quite excited by the new Rommel rules, which I hope will be coming out later this year from Sam Mustapha and Honour games.  I think that this will dovetail quite well with the AFVs which will be coming out from Baccus.

I play alot of Combat Mission Battle for Normandy which mostly scratches my WW2 itch at company level albeit using pixel troopers instead of lead ones - I am not sure I want to replicate this using real models so was thinking of something more on an operational (at least Divisional) scale. I

So far I am looking at Spearhead WW2 which has platoon basing and seems to allow the modeller to use various support elelments such as MMGs and mortors which appear as specialised support platoons in most TOEs. I suspect Peter will eventually release packs for these rules replicating the WW1 range.

The other option is to go a bit bigger and look at Megablitz were one base equals on battalion - this is a proper operational scale but there are less chances to model various interesting support options and the abstraction with vehicles gets a bit absurd (one base with 1-2 models repsenting dozens of real tanks.).

I have been thinking about this, and decided I might just indulge in some nostalgia dn do Operation Warboard by Gaving Lyall in 6mm.

I played a lot of Panzer Faust Armoured fist a long time ago, the new revision might be different. It was good fun being Germans not so much Allies for tank vs tank as there's no chance of knocking out the super tanks from the front. Had to hope to track them and get around the back and shoot them where the armour is lighter.

I tried the GHQ rules a few times, I wanted to like these but I list interest in them.

I recently bought a copy of the PanzerTruppe rules from wargames Vault. These are good fun, simple, quick to learn, easy to remember how to play again, single sheet QRS. Looking forward to the next game.

I have been playing Rommel for a while in 3mm. I like them but there are things that are difficult to put in. I like all the wierd stuff. LOL

I have been toying with Panzer Korps for 6mm. I like that you can blend in naval and air combat. I am mostly a solo player and haveing trouble getting a grip on it. I have most of the rules that have been mentioned in the post but PK seems to have a lot to offer.

I ran Rommel at Bayou Wars convention in Biloxi and scenario generation takes most of my time. Last year I ran the Battle of Hannut, a Desert scenario and a Blucher Borodino game. I have been involved with an invasion of Malta game for this year.

With 6mm I am working on US, Brit, Indian, Italians and German armies. I am very impatiently waiting for tanks. That is slowing down my 6mm collection a lot. Many of the WW1 and colonial ranges work for WW2 infantry and artillery with the right paint job. I hope to end up with WW1 and WW2 armies. The infantry takes more time than tanks so I guess it will work out.

I am thinking of 4-5 figure bases that can be used as fire teams, squads, platoons or companies depending on the rules I use. I think that would be very flexible.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Gary

Hi Roland,

Which colours are you using for your allies vehicles?

Are you doing any dry brushing or just a base coat and wash?

How are you doing the wash, as in are you rubbing the excess off the high areas or just letting it settle naturally?

Regards,

Steve
