TOPIC: Mexican American war of 1846 |
Standard User Posts: 55 Hecoma 21st Jan 2016 12:12:31 Hello, I was wondering what figures can I use to portray this conflict? For the US army I plan to use the napoleonic prussian reserve infantry. What should I use to make the mexican army? Thanks. |
Napoleonic British in the stovepipe would work for some regulars. Mark "Extra Crispy" Severin |

French lancers in helmet might work for some Mexicans. A little goes a long way |

Standard User Posts: 55 Hecoma 26th Jan 2016 06:59:41 A huge thank to all for your advice! After some thought I think I'm going to choose the following figures: US infantry : napoleonic prussian reserve infantry (NPR02) with russian olpechnie command strips (NRU26). I hope Peter will be agree to sell me packs containing only command strips. Mississippi Rifles: ACW03. Painting the sack coat in red will do the job. US dragoons: ACW cav (ACW11 & 12). I will turn kepis into 1839 forage caps with green stuff. Regular mexican infantry: napoleonic spanish infantry (NSP05 & 07) with napoleonic animated french infantry to add variety. Regular mexican line cavalry: ??????? May be Risorgimento piedmontese ligh cav (RSI05) Irregular mexican infantry/cavalry: napoleonic spanish guerillas (NSP17 & 18) creating sombreros with green stuff. What do you think about this? |
Standard User Posts: 63 Le Comte de Froufrou 30th Jan 2016 12:32:52 I was thinking about this one too, so much that I produced army lists for Phil Barker's HFG rules (you can find them on the HFG resource site). Stovepipes should be ok for the Mexicans, and Prussian reservists for the US linee. The biggest problem is the irregular troops. The best 'sombrero' type hats on Baccus figures are probably the Thessalian LC. I'd really like to see some nice ragged peasanty figures in sombreros and with a mix of firearms, pikes, machetes and the rest. And some similar cavalry. Then I could start doing the Liberation Wars in South America. |
Standard User Posts: 55 Hecoma 31st Jan 2016 06:10:31 Thank you Le Comte de Froufrou. Thessalian light cavalry is a good proxy for irregular mexican lancers and their cloak can be transformed into a sarape (poncho). |
